(A.M.) Beginner to Advanced
Students focus on improving
their confidence and fluency
in spoken English. The theme-based
curriculum focuses on speaking
and listening skills, pronunciation
and vocabulary development.
Reading
and Writing (Oral Grammar)(P.M.)
Beginner to Advanced
Students review and practice
English grammar using daily
situations. Spoken grammar
is emphasized with reading
and written practice as
homework.
TOEFL (P.M.) Upper Intermediate
to Advanced
For students wishing to
enter a North American university,
this course teaches the
necessary grammar. Preparation
includes lessons and practice
tests with personal feedback
from the instructor.
TOEIC (P.M.) Intermediate
to Advanced
This course includes test-taking
strategies and practice
tests. Students may also
take the TOEIC test at Hawthorn-Vancouver.
IELTS (A.M or Evenings)
Upper Intermediate to Advanced
The IELTS Preparation course
is intended to provide students
with the skills required
to excel in the IELTS examination.
Students receive preparation
in examination techniques
and the specific language
and study skills required
for the IELTS test. The
program focuses on the key
strategies for improving
IELTS scores
ENGLISH
FOR ACADEMIC PURPOSES
Cambridge (Full-time) Intermediate
to Advanced (FCE, CAE, CPE)
Students write weekly compositions
and practice tests to help
prepare for their end-of-term
exams. Instructors use specially
designed course books and
listening materials. Sample
tests are written in class,
after concepts are learned.
Students may take the Cambridge
test at Hawthorn-Vancouver).
English
for Academic Purposes (EAP)
(Full-time) Upper Intermediate
to Advanced
This program prepares students
for further study in North
America at a post-secondary
level. The Hawthorn English
Language Centres Network
provides academic pathways
for students, and the EAP
program will help our students
achieve their academic goals.
ENGLISH
FOR SPECIFIC PURPOSES
Business English (Full Time)
Lower Intermediate to Advanced
Students improve their business
communication skills using
case studies, projects and
other activities. This is
a fast-paced class relevant
to the modern business world.
Internship
Program
The Internship program gives
students the opportunity
to use their English skills
in a business environment
while gaining real-world
business work experience.
Students must have an English
proficiency of TOEFL 520,
TOEIC 750, FCE or equivalent.
YOUTH
PROGRAMS
Teen Program (13 TO 17 YEAR
OLDS) (Full Time) Beginner
to Advanced
The emphasis of the program
is on developing the communication
skills of the young students.
Weekly themes are chosen
that are both interesting
and relevant to teenagers,
and will teach functional
English, vocabulary, and
listening skills.
Students
will also develop their
reading skills by analyzing
English reading materials.
Our grammar classes are
presented in real situations
and the students are required
not only to write the grammar
but to use it in the real
world. Students are also
encouraged to develop their
writing skills by working
on both research and creative
pieces of writing.
There
is also a weekly school
activity included in the
tuition fee. Students must
show proof of medical insurance
before they can begin classes.
Young
Learners (9 TO 12 YEAR OLDS)
(Full Time) Beginner to
Advanced
The Young Learners Program
is a full-time immersion
program specifically designed
to meet the needs of 9-12
year olds. Functional English,
vocabulary and listening
skills are based on weekly
themes that are developed
to improve fluency. Afternoon
classes are spent on less
formal classroom activities
and class projects. A weekly
field trip is also included
in the tuition.
Students in this program
must be escorted to and
from school each day by
a parent or guardian. Students
must also show proof of
medical insurance before
they can begin classes.
