Applicants
Applicants from outside of Canada must possess the equivalent to
an Alberta High School Diploma with a minimum average of 60% or
its equivalent in the final year of study, as determined by the
Admissions Office.
Applicants from countries where the official language is not
English should pay particular attention to the College's English
proficiency requirement. International applicants should refer
to the preceding academic requirements for admission to Media
Arts & Digital Technologies.
Direct Entry/Advanced Standing Applicants
Applicants must have previous post-secondary art
education to be considered for admission directly to a major at
second or third year.
Direct Entry/Advanced Standing admission and placement will be
determined through an evaluation of previous course work and
level of portfolio achievement. All Direct Entry/Advanced
Standing applicants must have at least the equivalent to the
Alberta College of Art & Design's First Year Studies,
as determined by the Admissions Office. International applicants
must submit detailed course descriptions, translated and
notarized if not in English, in order for an evaluation to be
completed. Canadian applicants may also be required to submit
program and course outlines of previous studies.
Media Arts & Digital Technologies
Applicants to the Media Arts & Digital Technologies
major should note the diploma option is not available for this
major. To be considered for admission to the Media Arts &
Digital Technologies (MADT) major, Direct Entry applicants must
possess a cumulative GPA equivalent to an ACAD GPA of at least
2.67. Applicants to MADT with a demonstrated, advanced
understanding of media practice and technologies who do not meet
these academic requirements will be assessed on an individual
basis and may be admitted by consent of the Chair of the
Department.
ENGLISH PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENT
Since
English is the language of instruction at ACAD, all applicants
must possess an adequate level of proficiency in English as
evidenced in one of the following forms:
1. Successful completion of at least two years of full-time
instruction in a school where English is the language of
instruction, including a passing grade in a Grade 12 English
course or its equivalent.
2. Successful completion of at least one year of full-time
instruction
(18credits) at a post-secondary institution where English is the
language of instruction, including at least one transferable
course in English composition or literature.
3. Achievement of an official score of at least 560 on the
paper-based or 220on the computer-based Test of English as a
Foreign Language
(TOEFL).

Official scores must received by ACAD directly from this agency.
Please quote Institution 0595 and Department Code 00 when
requesting official test results.
4. Successful completion of Level 4 of the English for Academic
Purposes (EAP) at Mount Royal College in Calgary. Results are
valid for one only. Applicants should contact the Languages
Institute at Mount College for information about this program.
